“Chinese Pose——Co-prosperity and Co-creation” The 3rd Wenzhou Sculpture Exhibition
BACKGROUND
Wenzhou is the economic, cultural, technological, financial and transportation center of Southern Zhejiang (Zhenan), the frontier of China’s economy. At the beginning of 2015, Wenzhou Municipal Committee and Municipal People’s Government decided to build Wenzhou Zhenan Sci-tech City on the basis of Wenzhou National High-tech Zone, leading the comprehensive transformation and upgrading of industries in Wenzhou and Southern Zhejiang, and promoting the construction of the eastern city center of Wenzhou.
Since the start of construction in 2016, around the three leading industries of smart equipment, life and health, and digital economy, Wenzhou Zhenan Sci-tech City has gathered 9 high-energy platforms such as Oujiang Laboratory, Wenzhou Research Institute of National Science and Technology, and China Eye Valley, and built Datang 5G Global Innovation Center-China Yangtze River Delta Regional Center, Tianxin Tiansi Digital Economy Industry Center, and Beidou Information Industry Base, etc., which strongly promoted the development of Wenzhou High-tech Zone.
In the new era, our focus is to solve the problem of the people’s pursuit of a better life. Chinese Pose • Huangshishan Sculpture Park was conceived under this background, and it is also an important measure for Wenzhou to establish an ecological city and accelerate the development of cultural industries.
In December 2017, 30 pieces of sculptures, based on “Chinese Pose” the 1st Wenzhou Sculpture Exhibition, landed in Huangshishan Park of Wenzhou, thus the park was officially renamed as “Chinese Pose·Huangshishan Sculpture Park”. It is built around mountains and rivers, maintaining the original geological features and natural ecological landscape of Huangshi Mountain. The total area of the park exceeds 700 hectares.
In 2019, Wenzhou Longwan District People’s Government (High-tech Zone Management Committee), Management Committee of Wenzhou Zhenan Sci-tech City and China Sculpture Institute further built Chinese Pose • Huangshishan Sculpture Park by hosting “Chinese Pose—Future Vision” the 2nd Wenzhou Sculpture Exhibition. The park is under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou Zhenan Sci-tech City, and with the joint efforts of the organizers, 55 outstanding sculpture works at home and abroad have been landed. After two rounds of exhibitions, the artistic atmosphere of Huangshi Mountain ecological area has been improved, the cultural connotation of the sculpture park has been sublimated, and the contemporary value of southern Zhejiang(Zhenan)culture has been highlighted. While the sculpture construction in Wenzhou has made new progress in scale and quality, it has entered a new stage of management and operation. It is a milestone creation and practice of the coordinated development of urban construction, public art, civic life and cultural undertakings in China.
In 2022, Wenzhou Longwan District People’s Government (High-tech Zone Management Committee), Management Committee of Wenzhou Zhenan Sci-tech City will cooperate with China Sculpture Institute and Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts to co-host the 3rd Wenzhou Sculpture exhibition. In line with “strive to create more outstanding works that spread contemporary Chinese values, embody the spirit of Chinese culture, and reflect the aesthetic pursuit of Chinese people”, this round of exhibition plans to complete 25 pieces of outdoor sculptures, in a sustainable artistic way to participate in urban development and promote ecological landscape construction of Zhenan.
EXHIBITION THEME
This round of exhibition will continue the main theme of the sculpture exhibition—Chinese Pose, with the title of “Co-prosperity and Co-creation”. “CHINESE POSE-CHINA SCULPTURE EXHIBITION” is a well-known indoor national sculpture exhibition held by China Sculpture Institute, and Huangshishan Sculpture Park, taking the form of an outdoor exhibition of the “Chinese Pose”, is an extension of the “Chinese Pose” in outdoorization, spatialization and internationalization.
The mission of science and technology is to create the material world, and the mission of art is to express and transmit human emotions. In the current era of rapid development in the intelligent age, the integration of technology and art is the future development trend. The development of science and technology will reconstruct new connections, allowing us to immerse ourselves in infinite imagination and personally practice infinite possibilities of creation. In the field of art, artists began to try to incorporate more scientific and technological elements into their works or use technology as a means to create, both in terms of expressive form and creative content, showing more diversified expressions. In emphasizing interactivity, openness, experience, and regional unique cultural charm, the integration with technology allows the expression of art to continuously show new potentials. This more open development has given birth to new cultural and artistic expressions, helping us to embark on a new journey.
In recent years, the cultural and tourism system of China has focused on meeting the people’s new expectations for spiritual and cultural life, and has been dedicating to enhance the people’s sense of cultural acquisition and happiness with high-quality cultural supplies. As the hosts of this year’s sculpture exhibition, the Management Committee of Wenzhou Zhenan Sci-tech City and China Sculpture Institute hope that through the expression of sculpture art, combining with developments and strengths of Science and Technology of Zhenan, we will welcome a smarter and greater future. We expect using art works to concern about developments of southern Zhejiang’s culture, and build Chinese Pose • Huangshishan Sculpture Park into a vivid sample of showing a beautiful China with Wenzhou’s charm. Through planned and gradual construction, we will devote ourselves to making it a world-class sculpture park, a new landmark of global art.
We expect artists to pay attention to the development of southern Zhejiang (Zhenan) in the new era, and use art to show the spirit of its self-confidence, innovation and enterprising, openness and inclusiveness. In a period full of changes, opportunities and challenges, we will use sculptures to focus on the new vision of the development of Southern Zhejiang, and “Co-prosper and Co-create” a bright future for Southern Zhejiang.
