In the early 2012, the Fifth Plenary Session of Haining the Fourteenth Session of the National People’s Congress Meeting, unanimously adopted a document entitled “The Proposal of giving the city the power, speeding up the Ancient City Yanguan as a leader in Qiantang Riverside development, and promoting the building of cultural tourism famous city”, the core content of this resolution is to create an “International Tourism Corridor at Qiantang Riverside”. According to the plan, It will build a golden river waterfront based on its unique resource, creating a cultural and creative corridor relying on coastline of Qiantang river, with the function of culture, leisure and tourism in Haining.

2. Theme Interpretation
The theme of the exhibition is “Tide Wonders”.
Haining, honoured as “Marvelous Spectacle”, which is the best place to watch the world-famous Qiantang River Tides, famous scenic spot for tidal bore watching and famous for “Line Cross River”. Su Dongpo gave it the reputation as “August 18th tide, spectacular world without rivals”, “Qiantang River, the Amazon River and the Ganges River are known as the world’s three major tidal bores. It has been always prosperous along Qiantang River since ancient which was the center of Kingdom Wu in southeast. The favorable place to watch the Qiantang River Tides has moved from Hangzhou East to Yanguan (Haining) since Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. Thus, Haining Qiantang River Tide with its amazing wonders attracts tourists at home and abroad to have a glimpse of it.
Haining Qiantang River Tide originates in the Han and Tang Dynasty, and reaches its peak in Ming and Qing Dynasty. It is famous for its high tide, various shapes, tumultuous fierce and thrilling feelings. As a nature gift and unique geography conditions, the momentum of Haining Qiantang River Tides are irresistible when the several meters high tides run into the Hangzhou Bay, such as cross tide line, line tide and back tide. The magnificent tides complete superb lyrical expressions over and over again, and make the world know Haining.
The academic atmosphere of Haining has flourished since ancient times. In Haining - the state of culture, people are honest, celebrities drove. It is the home town of the great master Wang Guowei, poet Xu Zhimo, and famous martial arts master Jin Yong. The exploration and research of the unique natural landscape of Haining tide is quite necessary. Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong reigns of Qing dynasty, the stone seawalls were in the big step of construction. Emperor Qianlong had toured Jiangnan for six times, of which four times visited Yanguan of Haining; Sun Yat-sen had the inscription for Haining “Advance as the tides”; and Chairman Mao even left the “The Poem of Watching Tide”. The examples like these are endless from every period.
Sculpture is a symbol of the spirit and character of the city and an important part of urban culture, acting as a city name card. Tide Wonders•2016 the First International Sculpture Exhibition will focus on tide culture as the core element, combining the history, culture, natural landscape and the concept of contemporary art together, to make the “tide culture” ecology-oriented, material-oriented, and art-oriented. The exhibition venue, the gap region of Qiantang River which is in south Dingqiao Town is 10 km from Haining city, is the best place to watch the tides. The sculpture park in this region will definitely raise an “art tide” from Haining, the city of tide in the East, which represents the new spirit of people in Haining to chase the tides with times.
