A. Overview
a. Background
China • Wuhu "Liu Kaiqu Award" International Sculpture Exhibition has been held four times. Up to today, the exhibition has won the attention from home and abroad and received increasing praises year by year. The number and quality of sculptures have also improved. Wuhu Sculpture Park has become an important public recreational place, as well as an important window to show the image of Wuhu City. According to incomplete statistics, Wuhu Sculpture Park has received various types of visiting groups to over a hundred times, the number of visitors from all sectors of society to nearly 4 million.
Wuhu Municipal Government utilizes the International Sculpture Exhibition as an important platform, continuing deepening the cooperation with China Sculpture Institute and China Academy of Art to create "a century sculpture" plan, in order to make Wuhu become a city of "sculptural landscape". This will bring more outstanding sculptures from the park to streets, and to people''''''''''''''''s life.
Song Chunhua, former Deputy Minister of Ministry of Construction, has said at the opening ceremony of the 4th "Liu Kaiqu Award" international sculpture exhibition: Wuhu City has made a perfect combination of urban public art and urban culture, creating a way that presents the cityscape, reflects the regional characteristics, and bears the spirit of the times through public art development. Three aspects need particular concern: Firstly, adhere to quality strategy, stick to respect and reverence for art, overcome the chase of quick success and impetuous mind. Step by step, focus on the accumulation and the accumulation of cultural heritage, provide greater art works to the contemporary society, and leave the cultural heritage for future generations; Secondly, adhere to the correct academic orientation and positive and healthy aesthetic orientation, and maintain highly artistic standards and tastes, which will help to abandon some kitsch sculptures and unhealthy trend of rising record achievement appeared in the urban construction of sculpture. In this way, it can inject more positive energy to the healthy development of Chinese urban sculpture as a good demonstration; Thirdly, adhere to the so called "Wuhu Model", an organizational form that combines government agencies, academic institution and art schools, to form a way that the government to organize and implement, academic institution to supervise, and art school to actively participate. We hope that the Wuhu sculpture exhibition and construction of Sculpture Park can be based on the current situation, focus on the future and long-term planning, and continue innovation and improvement, to make a new culture brand for Wuhu, a city full of innovation and joy.
b. Exhibition Theme
The Story of Wuhu is the culture and spirit of Wuhu. In here, it has extended meanings which point to the modern Wuhu spirituality and cultural characteristics. Wuhu is an important birthplace of culture of Southern Anhui Province. In the history of five thousand years of Chinese civilization, regional culture has been an important part of Chinese people''s spiritual world. Up to this day, after many vicissitudes, the people of Wuhu still have maintained a unique culture character and geographical quality, because Wuhu owns a very strong spiritual inspiration and exuberant vitality!
The so-called national is actually global sharing. The cultural art community of Wuhu central park relies on "The Story of Wuhu City" series sculpture exhibitions as the main academic activities, and its orientation will be more on the excavation and research for the spirit and culture of Wuhu. The works presenting in it will mainly come from outstanding artists who indentify with Wuhu regional culture and use their own way to make a modern transformation. The works will embody the special way artists used to handle the traditional and contemporary, east and west, time and space, personal art language and public aesthetic, etc.
All the selected works in "The Story of Wuhu" the 5th "Liu Kaiqu Award" International Sculpture Exhibition will be exhibited in Wuhu. With the requirement of fitting the works in accordance with the actual landscape, and with the joint selection by experts and organizers, the final selected works will be amplified and installed. The landscape sculptures installed will perfectly fit in the existing environment, and this will further consolidate the advantages Wuhu has in art resources and urban brand. Finally, Wuhu City will be built into a large outside historical and cultural museum which can represent zeitgeist of Wuhu. Thus it is able to gather the collective memory and mental strength of the people in Wuhu, and continue to achieve new Wuhu dream!

The exhibition adopts both ways of open solicitation and special invitation, invites contribution globally.

2. 2015 "The Story of Wuhu City" the 5th "Liu Kaiqu Award" International Sculpture Exhibition
Exhibition opening: 2015/11/21（Saturday）
Exhibition venue：Wuhu
Exhibition duration: All participating art works will be displayed permanently in Wuhu Sculpture Park.
3. All listed art works will be included in the 2015 "Liu Kaiqu Award" International Sculpture Exhibition Art Works Catalogue. The exhibition organizing committee will give every listed artist one copy of the catalogue.
Section Two: Contribution invited
All the creation plans are required combing the theme concept of "The Story of Wuhu City" in this exhibition, references such as the legend of Wuhu, the spirit of Wuhu, the culture of Wuhu, figures of Wuhu, etc. (for more details, see the attachment).
1.Form of the art works
All participating art works must be in the form of outdoor landscape sculpture, and the designed dimension should be about 4 meters.
2. Solicitation scope
All artists who identify with the theme and purpose of the exhibition and have the sculpture creation skills are qualified for participation, with no limitation of nationality, age and gender.
3. Artworks requirements
All exhibition works must be original and have not been showed in the public environment before; artists own the intellectual property rights of their own works; the concept of the work must have creativeness and uniqueness， aesthetics forms and artistic expression, as well as suitable for outdoor display; The art work should be practical, safe and permanent.
4. Collecting Details
(1) On-line registration and application. (if you can''t access the internet, please contact the committee office). All applicants must submit photo materials of one to three pieces of works to the committee and fill in the corresponding forms. Please find and download the required forms and material lists at: www.csin.org.cn, or go to the physical office of the 2015 "Liu Kaiqu Award" International Sculpture Exhibition Art Committee to complete the registration formalities. All required materials including the electronic registration form, exhibits project pictures, personal photo and a scanned copy of ID card (passport) must be sent to: wuhudiaosudasai@126.com before 17th April, 2015. If more than one piece of work are submitted, please make sure that the pictures correspond to their descriptions clearly; installation works must have clear described assembling structures (all electronic pictures sent via email should be at least 300DPI). The registration form should be filled up without missing any item. English should be the language in use for oversea participants (except the ethnic Chinese). Late applications will not be accepted.
（2）The Art Committee will evaluate all the applications and make the selection before 24th April, 2015. The final result will be announced on the official website of the 2015 "Liu Kaiqu Award" International Sculpture Exhibition: www.csin.org.cn. The art committee will send the invitation letter and exhibition agreement to the selected participants to specify the responsibility, right and obligation of the two parties. The selected participants should send the signed agreement along with a draft sculpture work (about 50 centimeters of its size) to the art committee before 8th June 2015 for the participation in the excellent artwork exhibition. Exact time and venue for the exhibition will be decided by the agreement.
5. The Protection of Intellectual Property Rights
（1） The project and plan submitted by the participants must not violate and infringe upon the patent, copyright, trademark, defamation or any other legitimate right and interest of the third party.
（2）Any text, images, graphics, audio or video material appeared in the submitted art works and projects of the applicants are protected by copyright, trademark and all other proprietary legal rights. No information mentioned above shall be released to the public without the consent of the participant.
（3）The organizers of the exhibition reserve the right to publish the art works catalogue and the distribution of catalogue, as well as authorize the Wuhu Municipal Government the right of its usage in public welfare.
6. Publication:
Exhibition catalogue: all the listed artworks and some excellent artworks will be included in the exhibition catalogue. Content of the exhibition will cover exhibition introduction, academic articles, exhibition highlights, artist biography, and artwork descriptions.
Section Three: The making of the art works
The 35 pieces award winning artworks are to be produced in the professional factory designated by the organizing committee. Figurative realistic sculptures should be exemplified by the artist him/herself. The making of the end product will be during 15th June 2015 to 1st October 2015. During this time, the artist must go to the factory and supervise the production process at least once. Accommodation will be provided by the art commission. Artists who fail to perform the supervision are considered to give up their right and qualification for the award voluntarily. The exhibition organizing committee will organize the supervision department to coordinate and supervise the manufacturing process.
Section Four: China Sculpture Art Forum
China Sculpture Art Forum is a grand sculpture art forum continually held by China Sculpture Institute. We will invite the participation of well-known experts, artists, collectors, directors of large art institutions and media from home and abroad to join us in the high quality academic seminars, lectures and receptions to enhance the academic quality of sculpture exhibitions, to expand the comprehensive influence of sculpture art in the field and to build the communication platform for academic exchange, high-end cooperation and promotion.
