The afternoon of November 22, the Sixth China Sculpture Forum was held in Wuhu by China Sculpture Institute, China Academy of Art, and Wuhu Municipal Government. The first half of the forum was presided over by Sun Zhenhua, Vice President of China Sculpture Institute; the second half was chaired by Yin Shuangxi, Vice President of China Sculpture Institute; Chairman Zeng Chenggang attended the seminar. The theme of the forum is “Sculpture Theory and Criticism in Spreading Era”.
First, Mr. Tang Yao, Deputy Editor of China Sculpture, lectured on the theme “The Visual and Ideaistic Historical Texts of Chinese Contemporary Sculpture - Look Back at the China sculpture”, which demonstrated to the participants the historically textual significance of the 8 years road of China sculpture. Then, Mr. Zhu Shangxi, Chief-Editor of China Sculpture Institute website, made a presentation entitled “The Impact of Digital Network Era to the sculptors”, focusing on exploring the likely changed working condition and ways of creation lead by the digital network situation. When the second half began, Ms. Han Xiaonan from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts gave a speech entitled “Experiment” is a new “Orthodoxy” – the heritage and veer of academy sculpture education in spreading era, which pointed out “experiment” is actually an attitude and concept of education and creation, and “education adapts to the times and social development” is the inevitable law; Finally, Mr. Jiao Xingtao, Dean of Sculpture Department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, gave a speech on the theme “Light Conservative” Pose in Spreading Era – “Yangdeng” art practice and sculpture theoretical criticism, and proposed that “Light Conservative” doesn’t mean to reject criticism and spread, but a choice of an unknown and traveling attitude, as well as pointed out that “at a certain stage, be vigilant of the illusion of mass response the spreading brought to you, avoid judging decisively of the experiment, and temporarily put aside the existing theory and dogma. This may be a way to help art get rid of some rigid art system and back to the fresh and intuition”.
During the speeches, the speakers actively interacted with the audience. The atmosphere of academic discussion is very warm. The forum also had a heated discussion of the “Wuhu Model” created by the China·Wuhu Liu Kaiqu International Sculpture Exhibition. After four years successive exhibitions, the social concern has gone up day by day, the number and quality of sculptures also increased year by year. The forum hope that the Wuhu Sculpture Exhibition and sculpture park construction can be based on the current basis, focus on the future and long-term planning, and constantly improve and innovate, to create new culture brand for Wuhu City.
